CONTEST - CHESS SQUARE AND PARKING
USED PROGRAMS
Place: Estepona (Malaga)
Year: 2019
Team: Charity 92 Architects

Inside the urban center of Estepona is the Plaza de el Ajedrez, a small square surrounded by one-way streets and parking on both sides. A large free space but completely overcrowded that distances it from public life and the enjoyment of the neighbors. The proposal has two different parts. On the one hand, the car park wants to alleviate the traffic in the area and enable the pedestrianization of the center. On the other, a square much more focused on pedestrians is projected, with large spaces for different uses, providing visibility to the premises, meeting and celebration spaces. The project was a collaboration between the Sevillian studio CHS that designed the square, and us (Caridad 92) that designed the car park, studied the environment, plant species, traffic and infrastructures.
